11.01.2013 Alterations and Extension of Existing House Near Dunkeld
Woodside Parker Kirk are deligh ted to announce the completion of the extension of this house near Dunkeld in Perthshire.
This house was originally designed by Woodside Parker Architects and constructed as part of a three home development in 1996. The current owner and our client prepared a brief which included raising the existing roof by 1 metre in order to create accomodation space in the attic.
The proposal includes an additional 2 bedrooms with ensuite and an office, along with some minor alterations to the ground floor to provide access to the new attic rooms. Other alterations include new dormer and velux windows to provide daylight and ventilation. These windows are also located so that there are no overlooking issues with the adjacent properties.
Due to the local climate and planned time of construction a tent structure was erected to avoid any damage to the existing building and ground floor during the construction phase.
The clients are delighted with the project.
We will be added further images and information on our project page shortly.
In the meantime, you can see updates on or facebook and twitter pages.

19.10.2012 Designing Your Own Home
In the UK only 10% of all homes are self build projects compared to 40% in France and Germany and as much 80% in Austria. A self build project does not have to mean the owner carrying out the construction work themselves, in reality the majority of these projects are self procured rather than self constructed. This process involves buying a plot of land and employing of a group of professionals such as Architects, Project Managers and Contractors to assist and carry out the design and construction of your home.
Woodside Parker Kirk architects has a vast experience in carrying out this type of project and we have successfully worked together with a variety of clients to help them realise their ideal home. We assist with the design and specification creating a home suited to your lifestyle, site and requirements. These projects can often achieve savings of between 20 and 40% of the cost of buying a home from a property developer.
We have listed some useful links below which include very useful information from the Scottish Government and the National Self Build Association. We would encourage you to follow the links and contact our office if you would like any further information or harbour an ambition to design and build your own home.
